What is Anaerobic Exercise?
Anaerobic exercise is basically the short-burst, all-out kind of training where your body’s like “oxygen? never heard of her.” You’re running purely on the energy already stored in your muscles, which is why these explosive moves only last about 10–15 seconds before your system taps out. Quick, powerful, and over before you can question your life choices.
As we age, we tend to lose muscle at a rate of about 1% per year after age 27, unless we actively work to slow that decline, muscle is a metabolically active tissue, and the more of it we can maintain, the more calories we can burn while at rest.
Best Weight Training Exercises for Women
For instance, you can use a pull-up assist band to increase your strength until you can do a pull-up on your own.
Since most anaerobic workouts involve high-intensity free weight training, make sure you are geared a high impact bra before jumping into these movements. Explore our VEQKING sports bra and get ready to lift without distractions.
SEATED BICEP CURLS
1.Sit on a bench, dumbbells at your sides, palms forward. Curl them up without letting your shoulders do the gossiping.
2.Lower them slow (3–4 sec). Don’t lock out at the bottom unless you hate your elbows.
3.Do 3×10 and pretend it’s light.
HIP THRUST
1.Sit on the floor with your upper back on a bench. Roll the bar onto your hips like a champ. Knees bent, push your hips up until your torso’s basically a tabletop.
2.Drop your hips back down controlled, then drive up again like you’re trying to impress the gym gods. Repeat.
3.Do 3 sets of 15–20. Use a 20 kg bar plus 5 kg plates on each side. Your glutes will file a complaint later.
Shoulder Overhead Press
1.Start with your feet hip-width distance apart. Bring your elbows out to the side creating a goal post position with your arms. Elbows will be straight out from shoulder height and abdominals held in tight.
2.Press dumbbells straight overhead until your arms are straight. Slowly return to starting position (goal post arms) with control.
Lying Dumbbell Chest Fly
1.Sit on a weight bench with dumbbells. Lie back, bending your knees and bringing your feet flat onto the bench.
2.Hold the dumbbells straight above your chest, palms facing each other.
3.Open your arms wide, bringing the dumbbells to either side of your shoulders.
4.Pause. Bring the dumbbells back to the starting position.
Advanced Option: Stability Ball Tricep Kick Back
For a fun advanced move, add a stability ball to your tricep kickbacks to not only strengthen your triceps but also challenge your core stability.
And heads-up — because this move has your chest pressed directly against the ball, choosing a wireless sports bra becomes super important for comfort and mobility. Try the VEQKING high impact padded sports bra for a secure, distraction-free lift while you power through this variation.
General Recovery Guidelines
1.Allow at least 48 hours between intense anaerobic sessions to let muscles and the nervous system recover.
2.Refuel within 60 minutes post-workout with a mix of protein (20–30 g) and complex carbs to replenish glycogen.
3.Stay hydrated; even mild dehydration can hamper high-intensity performance and recovery.
4.Prioritize 7–9 hours of sleep per night to support hormonal balance and tissue repair.
5.Incorporate low-intensity activities (walking, mobility work) on rest days to promote blood flow and reduce soreness.
6.Don’t forget to rock a push-up sports bra before hitting your anaerobic sets
Remember – for all of these movements, keep your core tight, and use control. You got this!
